The Slumdog glare

If our newspapers and television channels are to be believed Slumdog Millionaire is an Indian movie. They are falling over each other in anticipation of an Indian Oscar. If Slumdog is an Indian movie, Schindler's List is German and Good Morning Vietnam is, well, Vietnamese. How we love to bask in reflected glory.
Well, A.R.Rahman has a genuine shot at the Oscar and we should be proud of it. A.R has been world class for a long time and we didn't need an Oscar-nomination to tell us that. Resul Pookutty's nomination for sound mixing is even more commendable since technical brilliance has never been our strong point. But sir Slumdog is no Indian movie just as Ben Kingsley is no Indian for having played Gandhi.

Isn't Slumdog Millionaire just a typical Bollywood masala movie made with Hollywood precision?

But we owe one thing to the movie at least...it has miraculously educated Indian masses about terms such as "amazing script" and "great editing".

If Slumdog Millionaire was a Hindi movie made by an Indian director, it wouldn't have made it to the Oscars. And that's the shameful truth. You need the Hollywood PR and marketing machinery firing on all cylinders to make a good film great.
I don't quite agree that we do not have great scripts or editing skills. There are a lot of fine Indian film-makers out there working on shoe-string budgets and a prayer.

You got me all wrong. I didn't mean to say that we don't have great technicians. I was merely referring to the stupidity I am being subjected to at present... with everyone telling me how good the 'editing' or cinematography' of this movie is.
All these fellows never saw photography or editing talents in Indian movies..

Talking about Indian movies and movies in general, Santosh Sivan is my hero... So you see, I AM ALL INDIAN.
Btw, thanks for proofreading :-)
